Where To Go, Who To Ask For Really Inexpensive Linoleum Or Vinyl Flooring?
I am desperate! I rent and my landlord could care less what I do to my home (which is good for me), but won’t pay for it. How do I find cheap flooring (198sq ft) for a kitchen with original linoleum floors over 47 yrs. old? It looks more like a garage then a kitchen floor, that’s how bad it is. I’m obviously not picky, just on a budget of $125 or less.

the dollar store sells it real cheap.
The cheapest linoleum you can get is the “in stock” kind that they keep on the big rolls, usually somewhere on a back wall, at home improvement stores. It’s really cheap. It gets more expensive when you look at there sample boards and order a kind they don’t keep in stock. But when they do “special order” linoleum or vinyl flooring for someone else, they have to buy an entire huge roll, and then what’s left after that customers project is sold as a “remnant” for a huge discount. Flooring stores also always have huge supplies of “remnants” for really cheap.

ITA w/all above ideas. Remnants can also be found in those stores.
Have you considered painting the floor? There are paint products available that can be used as a base coat to keep color on old floor blocked out. Then you could paint using marine paint perhaps, or whatever your DIY center recommends. This is probably a lot cheaper and user friendly than dealing with uneven floor areas and the gluing and cutting of vinyl, etc.
Either way – best of luck to you!
