How Easy Is It To Put Vinyl Tile In Bathroom?
Hi, I live in vegas, and my bathrooms vinyl floor is looking nasty, its stained, how easy is it to remove and then replace? The bathroom is small, its about 8 feet by 9 feet, its the smallest one in the house can I do it myself without much experience? I found good price one its 12×12 inch square each vinyl square and looks so nice, it as the sticky back, but ZI believe under the old vinyl is concrete.

my wife can do it so can you. frist find the centerof the foor .both way. then make big x on the floor. that will be your starting line.now the fun start now if your old tile or dlown anthey are not coming up leave them dlown go right over them fust move your x so it in the half way if the tile that lay dlowm . that way if water get under the tile it would pick up the bottom tile. you can take your tolat out or you can tile around it then seal it around the talet.
if it is only one layer of vinyl you can put the vinyl tile on top of it.
The only additional idem you will need is something called Level embosser Which will fill in the pattern of the old vinyl so it will not show through in your new one.
just make sure that the vinyl tile is but up against all walls under the baseboard so that the tiles will not shift.
Shouldn’t be that hard if you have a little carpentry type sense.
If the old vinyl is stuck to the concrete well and there is only one layer down just go over the top.
First step would be to take off shoe molding[if there is any] and take out commode.
second if you really want to do it correctly is to spread a feather finish over the old vinyl.Ardex makes one that you mix with water and spread with a flat trowell. This will cover any imperfections and help the new bond to the old.wait until dry{about an hour with fan} then take some sandpaper and smooth it off.
third you need to get a straight edge and mark a line.Find two marks the same distance after you size the room.In other words you want to start and finish the tile so all the last cuts will come out pretty even around the room.Sometimes I will rough lay the pieces to see how hey fall first. The line you mark with the straight edge lets you lay the tile down the line so you will not lay it slanted.
You need a sharp knife.I recommend a hawk billed knife and just take your time.
I just tore out all the vinyl tile in my kitchen (14×16). Purchase a heat gun($20) and use that to soften the tile as you lift it up with a 4″ putty knife. You will probably see the lines where the old tiles were so just follow those for your layout. You could pull up the toilet but since it’s vinyl just cut the shape for around the toilet and caulk.
very very easy!! just find the center of the largest part of the bathroom ,, make an x ther and put one tile in each corner of the x and work out!! run a chalk line or similar so you can stay straight
A good straight-line powdered chalk so that you can stay in a straight line when laying down the tiles is a necessity. A good priced one can be found here.http://www.thehardwarecity.com/?sku=4415…
