Whats The Best Method To Install Vinyl Tile Flooring In An Old House?
My wife and I decided to redo the kitchen floor with 1 foot vinyl self-adhesive tiles. After research, it said to try a leveling compound on the old floor so the design wont show through the new tile. Well, it didnt really work that well
And it was decided to tear out the old sheet vinyl floor. Now we have 1/4inch plywood subfloor with all kinds of bumps of glue and old pieces of sheet tile all over. After research, the options are: Rip up the subfloor and put down new plywood or install luan over the old subfloor. We arent going to be in this house for long, a couple years at most and we were looking to improve the kitchen a little bit. Now this happened
Trying to keep cost in mind, whats the best route? The tiles were only 39 cents a piece!! Hehe. Are there other options?

Is My Concrete Slab Ready For Tile? (pics)?
i am looking to tile my entry foyer. originally it had tile that i scraped up. only a little bit of mortar was left. bamboo floors were then installed by gluing the planks directly to the slab.
we have decided that we want to tile the entry foyer again to break up the wood flooring. so far i have ripped all the planks up and removed as much of the glue as i possibly could. i spent a good 7hours yesterday with adhesive remover, razor scrapes, floor scrapes, hot water, etc…
i am at the point where i want to start tiling and im not 100% sure i got enough of the glue off the ground.
please click on the links to the pictures i took of the floor and let me know if you think the floor is ready or if i need to continue to get more of the glue off. im guessing if i have to get more glue off, a concrete sander is my next and only option. all help is greatly appreciated.

What Is Better For A Kitchen Floor, Vinyl Or Tile?
I am looking at replacing my kitchen floor, which currently has carpeting. (Bought the house like that.) And now I am looking to do either vinyl or tile. I understand tile is good for a lifetime, where as vinyl is good for 15-20 years for the heavier kind, but tile is double the cost. We plan on staying in our house a long time, if not forever, but in the case we would decide to sell, would tile or vinyl give us more value?
Anyone Tried A Vinyl Tile Floor Kitchen Backsplash?

Should I Install Ceramic Tile On Top Of Existing Vinyl Floor?
I have a kitchen and two bathrooms with vinyl floor glued directly to a concrete slab. Do I have to remove the old vinyl, or can I leave it down and install the ceramic tile on top of it. I’ve heard that if the vinyl is secure, and if you rough it up with sand paper, you can leave it down…is that true? Please…professionals only…Thanks!
Can You Lay Tile Over Vinyl Flooring?
If you want to put tile over vinyl flooring without removal of the old vinyl do this:
Install cement board over the vinyl floor (in this case the vinyl would act as your “felt or vapor barrier”) first with cement board screws 8″ on center. Then you can use tile adhesive to glue your new tile on top of the cement board. Once adhesive dried, come back and apply grout.
