Putting In Vinyl Floor Tile?

Author: Okay, so we are remodeling on a budget (a TIGHT budget). We want to put vinyl floor tiles in the kitchen. However, we ripped out the carpet, and there was a layer of laminate (the roll-out kind) that the carpet was GLUED to, and then that laminate was GLUED to a layer of TAR PAPER (i have no idea what the previously owners were thinking…)… and that tar paper was glued to the wood floor underneath… we got everything removed, but it still isnt exactly a smooth surface, and we don’t want to put the tiles directly on that because of the unevenness of the surface (we don’t want the tiles getting messed up as we go, you know?)…
what do we need to do to the floor before we lay tile?

Can I get away without removing the toilet and bath (which has claw feet, not a panel)? Will the floor look ok if the vinyl is cut round these?

Putting In Flooring?
Which is better for a kitchen. Bamboo or cork? Is there a huge price differencial? I want to try to do this myself.
I’m Thinking Of Putting Bamboo Floors In My Bathrooms. Does Anyone Know If They Would Work Well In A Bathroom?
bamboo flooring is essentially bamboo material veneer applied to engineered flooring. It will be durable and handle the occasional wet spot well. Be careful with the slip factor though.

Problem: Putting A Bamboo Laminate Floor Over Concrete?
I want to coat the cement slab with Red Guard waterproofing & crack compound to 93 mills. After it dries, I will roughen it up so I can glue the bamboo wood laminate to it. Does this solution make sense?

Putting Ceramic Tile Flooring Where Vinyl Was; Does The Floor Have To Be Spotless?
the floor had vinyl tile and we want to put down ceramic. is it necessary to remove all the old masik/adhesive residue before we install the new flooring?
