Any Problem Installing Laminate Flooring Directly (no Underlay) Over Vinyl Kitchen Floor That Is Over Dry Wood
The salesman says to use a plastic sheet and/or thin foam underlay but offers no persuasive reason to do so other than the floor might be quieter. My subfloor is dry wood over a full basement. I can see no valid reason for the added underlay and expect to install without it unless someone can offer a good reason for its use.
Base For Installing Vinyl Floor Tiles?
I know the best way is to lay wood underneath, but this is not an option. The choices are:
1. Lay the tiles on the floorboards – fairly new and in good shape
2. Lay them on top of the vinyl flooring – also newish and in good condition
The area to be covered is tiny – just over 2 square metres – it’s my bathroom floor.
Which is the better option?

Installing New Flooring Over Uneven / Slanted Floor?
I live in an old house, and there is one area in the kitchen where it transitions from one floor level to the other. I have no idea why it is this way, but it is right down the center line of the house, so I am sure there was a structural reason. There is a total drop of 3-4″ over a distance of about 6″, so in effect it’s like a tiny ramp. I have not pulled up the carpet to see what exactly it looks like underneath. I am planning on installing new floors myself on a budget, so re-doing a bunch of structural stuff is not really an option. I need ideas on how to handle the slope, what types of flooring could do this, etc. I was wanting to do a wood / bamboo throughout the house (the house is very small and I want the visual unity).
Thanks for your help!
Installing Wood Floor Over Particle Board?
I about to put bamboo flooring in my house. Our subfloor is particle board. I suggested to my husband that we put down 7/16″ plywood over the particle board then lay down the felt paper and install the floor. The floor is not very level in a lot of areas and it would be the easiet way to level it all out and becuase the warranty states it will be void if it is installed over particle board. My husband just wants to level out the floor with some kind of compound or something then put down the felt paper right over the particle board and just lay the floors that way to save in cost (he isn’t worried about it being warrantied) and because laying plywood over the existing subfloor would make the bamboo floors so much higher then the rest of the floors in the house. It just dawned on me the reason not to lay it over particle board is probably an issue of nails not grabbing correctly. Is there a nail that is riveted or something that will grab into particle board or am I in trouble?

Tips For Installing Wood Flooring?
We have tiger strand bamboo hardwood flooring that we are laying in our house. Because it is sooo incredibly hard, more often than not, the nails bend when we use the cordless nail gun. It is the strongest available, and the guy at Lowe’s said any of the guns we could rent that use compressors would have the same issue. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.
Installing Bamboo Laminate Flooring With Padding Built In And Pieces Won’t Fit Together Well….?
…and after a frustrating morning finally read the directions which say to take the plastic wrapping off the boxes and let the wood set in the boxes flat on the floor for 48 hours before installing floor….will this step help the pieces of the floor go together better? And if not, what is the purpose of that 48 hour wait? My house is in total disarray – all the living room furniture was moved into the kitchen and I would like to scream! Are there certain tips for installing this type of flooring that are different from installing flooring with no backing? Thanks.
