How Many Green Myths, Contradictions And Lies Do You Notice?
For me, my favorite is bamboo and linoleum flooring. Bamboo flooring comes from Asia on carbon-pumping diesel-burning cargo ships from around the world. Linoleum comes from Europe, so the carbon-pumping diesel-burning cargo ship syndrome exists. Also, a linoleum plant can’t even be built in north America due to environmental laws. The immense amount of organic VOCs released during the manufacturing process would never fly here. CFL bulbs are made in China too- all aboard! Sooner or later people will realize that Environment is directly linked to Economy via global trade. You can’t have it both ways.
Green Remodeling…isnt It Worse For The Environment?
i have noticed on a lot of home remodeling shows, diy, hgt etc. that a lot of people are saying things like, we want a green house, we care about the environment, we want a smaller carbon foot print and every other green key phrase you can think of. so they buy environmentally friendly products……like bamboo flooring, ecofriendy cabinets and counter tops, enviro tiles etc…..but they rip out the old and throw it in the trash, where it is carted off to a landfill….wouldn’t the better option be to refinish existing floors instead of replacing them? rehabbing existing cabinet by putting on a new finish and new hardware, and things like that? how does replacing something that is already there, with something else lower your carbon foot print? the bamboo still had to be cut down, it still had to take a large amount of energy to cut them to size, they still had to have tons of chemicals applied to them, they still had to be shipped thousands of miles, and the old still ended up in a trash heap. if you replace something that is not consuming energy with something that is considered environmentally friendly, then aren’t you still increasing your carbon footprint? i mean you should upgrade your old appliances to efficient appliances, but recycle the old instead of throw them away. but appliances consume energy, so by replacing them with efficient models, you would lower your energy consumption, but floors and cabinets do not use energy.

Do You Think More People Would Be More “green” If They Saw The Financial Benefit To Them?
Don’t get me wrong, I think global warming has been used as a political tool to gain votes, and has been seriously blown out of proportion. I think there’s probably a natural cycle to the earth’s temperature, but I don’t think our SUV’s are going to cause the world to end like some people are claiming.
I’m buying bamboo flooring for my house, not because they’re the most eco-friendly flooring, but because they’re inexpensive and they look nice. I don’t drive an SUV, not because I think they’re ending the world, but because I can’t afford to put gas in one.
I use fluorescent bulbs, not because I want to be green, but because I want to save money and change my bulbs less.
SO – maybe I’m the only one who feels this way, but wouldn’t it be a much better political tool to point out the financial gain of doing things that are environmentally friendly, versus alienating everyone who doesn’t jump on the bandwagon?? I think most people are reasonable, they just don’t like to be insulted

I Want To Build A Enviro-friendly “green” House. Where Can I Find Plans And Costs For Leed And Green Homes?
I need architechtural plans and realistic way to cost out a “green” home less than or about 2000 or so sf.
Here is what I want:
-passive solar
-Depending on costs:
–gray water recycling
–under floor radient heating
–consider alternative construction like straw bale/rammed earth or modular
–recycled materials for insulation
–bamboo
–natural materials
–solar panels
–heat pump
I’d really like to do it right but I’m of moderate income and single middle aged woman.
I need it to be affordable. I’m in Alabama and few do this. I need to keep humidity and heat and climate in mind.
Under or around 2000 sf
Any info on financing for green homes would be welcome too;
Can I Have A Photo Of Your Green (environmentally-friendly) House?
I’m writing an article for a magazine, and I need a great, not copyrighted photograph of a house decked out with awesome green features, such as bamboo or concrete flooring, recycled glass backsplashes, copper sinks, or other Green building materials.
Anyone know where I can get one?
Is There Such A Color For Vinyl Flooring That Is Lime Green And Hot Pink?
Color names are chosen to make colors more desirable, and vary from company to company and product to product. These days, there’s not much call for lime green and hot pink, so they tend to call them other things like tranquil green and trembling rose (these are just examples made up off the top of my head, just as most color names are just made up someone). So yes, it’s out there, it just has a different name. Don’t trust color names. So far I have found three different distributors with three distinctly different colors called Linen White.
Good luck.
Doing A Report For School “the Dark Side Of Go Green”?
