need help chosing a carpet and vinyl color that does not show stains and dirt easily. I am so getting a new living room set so trying to match it to that it is not a issue. I just want the vinyl floor and carpet to complement each other. The vinyl in dining room and carpet in the living room and hall way which will be carpet meets up. The kitchen and breakfast area is attached to the dining but you can’t see those areas from the living room. I have no one to go look at samples with. Should the kitchen, breakfast area, and dining room all have the same type of vinyl and color or separate. Help I am open to any suggestions. All I know is that I am get a leather sofa and loveseat.

My wife and I decided to redo the kitchen floor with 1 foot vinyl self-adhesive tiles. After research, it said to try a leveling compound on the old floor so the design wont show through the new tile. Well, it didnt really work that well And it was decided to tear out the old sheet vinyl floor. Now we have 1/4inch plywood subfloor with all kinds of bumps of glue and old pieces of sheet tile all over. After research, the options are: Rip up the subfloor and put down new plywood or install luan over the old subfloor. We arent going to be in this house for long, a couple years at most and we were looking to improve the kitchen a little bit. Now this happened Trying to keep cost in mind, whats the best route? The tiles were only 39 cents a piece!! Hehe. Are there other options?

I ripped up the vinyl floor in my bathroom because when whoever laid the floor last did it, they didn’t bother to secure the floor beneath it. It appears that several floorboards are cut off before the joist so they bob a little. My question is, after I secure these, what is the best way to lay new floor? My dad said I should just lay quarter inch plywood on top of the adhesive left over from the last floor and just screw it down then lay my new vinyl over that. But with that I worry about pockets that could crack in the future. My father in law said I should spread floor leveler or get adhesive remover but with both of those I’m a little worried it would seep through since I don’t think the hardwood floor is sealed very well if at all. Any suggestions on the best method for this situation?

We’re going to put bamboo flooring downstairs over the slab.
We first need to apply self-leveling concrete to even out the contours caused by roots, settling over the years. Then we need to put down the vapor/moisture barrier, then adhesive, then lay the floor in.
What’s the easiest way to scrape/clean off left over paint and drywall mud, texture mud, old linoleum flooring? We need this done fast, and using a manual scraping tool is just out of the question.
Help!!!!!!!!!!
PS: We’re talking about 550 sq ft.

Our basement only gets water rarely, and if so, not very much. We wanted to put some indoor/outdoor carpet down there, or maybe vinyl flooring… what do you suggest?
We’d like to use it as a family room… for my young son… maybe a toy room with an extra tv and couch.

I am setting up a home office and have a nice chair on casters. I’d like to protect the wood flooring from the scratches/damage from rolling around on it. What type of rug is best for that – type meaning material – wool, jute, bamboo, etc.? And by “best” I mean what will not bunch up when rolling around, allows me to move around smoothly, can withstand a lot of rolling around without wearing down or shedding or balling up… all that good stuff!! Thanks in advance…

I’m looking for an effective way to clean certain heavily soiled spots on my carpet. What’s the best process and best products to use? I’d like to avoid using harsh chemicals if I can because my daughter has asthma. I’d appreciate any advice offered. Thanks.

So far I haven’t found a decent car shampoo that does what I want it to do. Most of the shampoos I purchased were in a can and some of them weren’t made for cleaning the carpet in your car. Can anyone here recommend a good carpet shampoo that won’t leave any leftover residue and can be vacuumed up with my shop-vac? Also, the safer the shampoo is to use on all carpet types the better.

I have a dark blue carpet in my entire apt. but i dont know what color to paint my walls.I want a warm color. I am not going to change the carpet but I would like colors to match it. It is a large space. I have a den, living room, and dinning room (they are all somewhat connected) and i would like to have different colors that blend nicely.

can bamboo be good or nt? need your advice. my office has enough green on the walls and floor. but still i want to have some fancy plants there. what would u like to put there?
