Cheapest Way To Do Hard Wood Floors?
My mom is opening up a little store that is about 300 square feet (20×15). It is in need of serious renovation. This is going to be my first real design project (I’m a student studying interior design) but I need a little help.
We are very tight on money and I wanted to know the best way to do the floors. We want to do hardwood, specifically reclaimed or bamboo. I am going to try Craig’s list and such but i need some more ideas please.
Thank you for your help!
Decorating Advice: Mixing Black & Dark Brown In Olive Green Room?
My living room / dining room walls are olive green, light tan sofa (with light tan pillows and two black pillows that I added recently), bamboo blinds, ecru curtains, oak hardwood floors. My large TV console/bookcase is espresso brown (black-brown), two chairs are black wood & espresso leather seats, and end tables are black metal and dark brown wood. It’s pared down in the aspect of having very little clutter (photos, vases, trinkets, etc.) sitting around. It’s all very earthy-looking and I like it.
I want to paint my old coffee table, dining room table & buffet, but not sure if I should paint them espresso brown or black. Painting the tables and buffet espresso brown seems ’safer’ than going with black. Am I just being a sissy about the black? Any suggestions?
Jehovah Witness, What Do You..?
think?
A sister sent me this through email.
THE FERN AND THE BAMBOO
One day I decided to quit … I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality. I wanted to quit my life.
I went to the woods to have one last talk with JEHOVAH.
“JEHOVAH,” I said. “Can you give me one good reason not to quit?”
His answer surprised me… “Look around”, He said. “Do you see the FERN and the BAMBOO?”
“Yes”, I replied.
“When I planted the FERN and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor.”
“Yet nothing came from the BAMBOO seed. But I did not quit on the BAMBOO.”
“In the second year the FERN grew more vibrant and plentiful.
“And again, nothing came from the BAMBOO seed. But I did not quit on the BAMBOO.”
He said, “In the third year, there was still nothing from the BAMBOO seed. But I would not quit.0
In the fourth year, again, there was nothing from the BAMBOO seed. But I would not quit.”
He said, “Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the FERN it was seemingly small and insignificant. But just six months later the BAMBOO rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive.”
“I would not give any of my creations a20challenge it could not handle.”
JEHOVAH said to me, “Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots. I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you. Don’t compare yourself to others.”
He said, “The BAMBOO had a different purpose than the FERN, yet, they both make the forest beautiful.”
“Your time will come,” Jehovah said to me. “You will rise high!”
“How high should I rise?” I asked.
“How high will the BAMBOO rise?” He asked in return.
“As high as it can?” I questioned.
“Yes.” He said, “Give me glory by rising as high as you can.”
I left the forest and brought back this story. I hope these words can help you see that JEHOVAH will never give up on you.
Never regret a day in your life. Good days give you HAPPINESS. Bad days give you EXPERIENCES. Both are essential to life.
Keep going … Happiness keeps you SWEET. Trials keep you STRONG. Sorrows keep you HUMAN. Failures keep you HUMBLE. Success keeps you GLOWING.
But only JEHOVAH keeps you GOING!

Painting Room, Please Help?
I am 17 and going to college next summer. I want to make my room really nice before I leave.
I like in a condo, so my room is not that big.
I have a glass computer desk, bamboo dresser/bed (brown) and wood floor in my room (like a regular brown)
http://www.vanillawoodfloors.co.uk/images/Vanilla_Images/engineeredwoodfloors/oak_wood_floor_k21_120.jpg
like that kind of but a tad bit darker.
and there is molding on the bottom same as the wood floor.
I dont want to make it too girlish. i want to put up picture frames and stuff before i leave so yeah.
I want to do it pink or purple, but i dont know if it would go with the wood floor.
i have light green right now and it goes but i havvent found curtains to go with it for the past like 2 years!
i want to do a mocha/light brown, but i don’t know exactly which kind ( i was looking on Benjamin Moore website)
what color would look nice (from what i suggested or anything else also =) )
Bedroom Ideas?
I’m 15 (Freshman In Highschool)
and I’m going to redo my room over spring break
(My room is currently a beach theme, but not like tacky beach, like fiji beach)
anyways I live in California and the budget is like 1,000 probably, and I don’t need any furniture because I have A TON, (it’s all white and very “clean cut chic”
my mom is an interior designer and my dad is an architect but they won’t help me with my room
I’m debating between light blue and black or lavender and chocolate brown
or I might do like a white room with a red wall (with a giant collage on it) and then like a zebra print rug or something
anyways, I HATE TACKY STUFF, that’s like the main thing haha
and my hardwood floors are like light wood (bamboo wood)
so any ideas?
bedding? colors? ANYTHING
thanks :]
What Style Of Dance Do You Find Is The Most Fascinating To Watch?
I’ve only seen it done once while at a festival. Also, I can’t remember it’s country of origin (Pacific Islander? South Pacific?)….
There were 4 long bamboo poles close to the floor, with (fake) blades at intervals down the length of each pole. The ends of the poles were each held by a man, who moved the poles around during the dance. There were 4 females dancing among the poles, and each other. Each dancer (male and female) had to time their moves perfectly so no one would get hurt. The dance was beautiful to watch, and would have been great even without the poles/blades. But, with everything there, it was that much more mesmerizing to watch. (I can’t imagine what it would be like dancing with real blades, instead of the softer/more pliable ones.)
Is This Insane????
I live in a condo building that has rules, regs and actual laws we must follow. There are NO exceptions to this unless it is in writing and documented.
Saying this about a year ago one of our homeowners put up a bamboo fence on her second floor balcony and it’s not authorized, docemented or approved anywhere in our docs. I was told by the lady that the old president of the board last year told her not to worry about it. Nobody would care.
1.) her unit faces a neighboring hotel. She claims the bamboo is there for privacy. She also claims it’s there for security as anyone from the second floor can climb over the railing from the cat walk. ( it’s flimsy material and really could n’t act as a barrier.
Our current board has myself and the old president and the new people on it. Part of our jobs is doing monthly walk throughs and this fence issue came up a a rule infraction.
2out of 3 board members said not to inforce the rules to this unit due to the hotel thing.

I was a bit suprised because upon investigation of all or our governing documents nothing giving this fence exemption from anything has been found., anywhere.
I asked if I could get board approval on the same fence and told no by the board majority.
I have my unit facing on the backside of the building and have my neighboring apartments that can look right into my unit too. The privacy isl lacking an would also like the same exact fencing ot be granted to me. Wen I asked why I got a “no”
One member said I had a vendetta against this woman, one said that we have always allowed partitians on the side of the property for years.. ( no docs anywhere )
We also have a rule adopted by the HOA in 2004 that clearly states the only approved fencing on this balcony is a fine mesh wire that can act as a barrier as our metal bars are 10 inches apart and could be dangerous to pets… that is the ONLY approved item. My atty wrote a letter reqesting the same fence 4 me.
So Is It Time To Get An Attorney?

How Come On Survivor? Nobody Builds…?
a bamboo hut right away? This bugs me. I would make a nice comfortable hut out of whatever material the environment provides. Surely, someone can do this. Any 12 yr old playing in the backyard could figure it out. And put down soft leaves/branches, something on the floor. Then you would be really popular on the show for providing a comfy place. Anybody else wonder this?
