I don’t know where you are asking from, so can’t help with details, but I can help you with a little information as a result of way too much experience…
1. put urine stains have two components that you need to get rid of: the stain and the smell. Getting rid of the stain does not always get rid of the smell.
2. to get rid of the smell and stain you will need to by an enzyme-based product
3. all the different ones I have bought over the years have worked OK, but after you test the carpet to make sure that it won’t discolour, the secret seems to be to spray heavily, put a plastic bag over it and leave it overnight so that the enzymes can work thoroughly. (enzymes work by ‘digesting’ the stain/odour causing residue – so time is needed).
In the morning, or the next evening, remove the plastic from over the carpet and allow to evaporate until completely dry (it probably will smell really bad while it does this!) Once it is completely dry – clean with a carpet machine if you have or can borrow one. If not, vacuum, and then rinse with water and vinegar solution.
I’ve had a couple of these machines over the years and like my Bissell that I currently have better than the ones in the past. I got mine at Walmart and I know it wasn’t over $150 at the time.
You want a unit that has a large enough motor to have good suction. The hand tools are a real bonus because you can do upholstery, carpeted stairs and such with them. I even use it to clean the upholstery and carpets in the cars.
As far as the pet stains, it’s the cleaning agent you use rather than the machine. Nature’s Miracle works great. That’s available at a lot of pet stores. Just read and follow the directions on the bottle. It’s a bit pricey but it does work!
I use a product called Odo-ban. I get it at Sam’s Club where I get a gallon of the concentrate for less than $10 and mix it according to the directions. If I have a pet accident to deal with, I mix some of the concentrate and water at a stronger ratio and pretreat the area. You need to soak it down well and leave it “work” for a good 15-20 minutes before sucking it up with the machine. This product is pretty strong smelling but the smell goes away quickly.
For general carpet cleaning, I still like Simple Green the best. It gets the dirt out and leaves a nice fresh smell. Non-toxic and biodegradable too. And once again, I get the gallon at Sam’s Club for less than $10. Mix according to the instructions on their web site. For spots, mix a stronger solution in a spray bottle and pretreat the area.
If you get into a foam issue in the recovery tank, just add a couple tablespoons of white vinegar in where the dirty water goes. That will break up the foam and keep the machine from getting a foam lock on it. And always take the time to sweep really, really well before shampooing a carpet. The more dirt you get up before means less loose dirt to plug up the shampoo machine.
Allow plenty of drying time and set up fans to help keep the air moving. Always go over the carpet multiple times and get as much of the water out as possible so it doesn’t create a mold or mildew issue.
Hi, The Hoover steam vac dual action gets a lot of good reviews from consumers. They like how it has a rinse button that gets all the soap out of your carpets which damages them if left in. Carpets dry quickly and consumers are impressed almost as much water comes out as you put in. They also like that you do not mix the water and detergent as you can pour it back if you have too much. Hoover also has a pet formula detergent for getting out pet stains that contains odor fighting enzymes.http://www.byvacuumcleaners.com/Hoover-s… Hope this helps.
I have an incontinent cat that has accidents pretty often any more. I have a Hoover steam vac. I don’t buy the commercial cleaners any more. They are no match for Benji (my old cat) poop & pee. I mix a cup of ammonia and a half cap of fabric softener with water in the tank. The ammonia combats the urine odor and the fabric softener conditions the carpet and smells good. This also eliminates flea eggs. I forget where I got this remedy but it works better than anything else. Don’t add extra ammonia – it is very strong.
No carpet cleaner will. You need to remove the stain. Nature’s Miracle and Simple Solution are 2 of the best.
Treat the spots, then shampoo the carpet with any machine
